I had an interesting conversation with a roommate of mine from India. He explained to me how if someone had a problem with something (e.g. car, plumbing, dirty house, yard, etc) that it is as simple as going out to the street and asking someone (mechanic, plumber, maid, landscaper, etc) to come back to your place and do their job and you pay them cash.
This intrigued me because it leaves the government out of your profession, there is no money trail, and people get work easily. Everyone is outside waiting help the community with their specific niche.
I have often dreamed of a world where everyone wakes up and the first thing on their mind is how can I help someone else today. This system that he explained to me in India is a step closer to the change I would love to see across the world.
People helping people. Not a corporation over charging people for services that provide a healthier and better lifestyle for the entire community.
In India, the houses are connected and separated by a wall. So everyone has a tight knit relationship with their neighbors. This is sets up the foundation for the aforementioned system of getting someone to aid you in fixing a problem or performing a service. Everyone knows everyone.
In our American lives, we see people erect massive fences and divided houses. The sense of collectiveness in the majority of neighborhoods, or even apartment complexes in our country is so miniscule compared to my roommate's country. If we realized that we are all Americans that are just trying to survive just like our neighboring Americans, I truly believe we could witness a GREAT CHANGE and see more people paying regular people to help them out.
